Wincanton and Screwfix anticipate continued growth with new-build distribution centre

Wincanton has extended its relationship with Screwfix, part of Kingfisher plc, to design and manage a newly-built 562,000 sq ft warehouse in support of the retailer’s expected growth through 2017 and beyond.

Construction work on the site at Prologis Park, Fradley near Lichfield, which is the size of seven football pitches, commenced in December 2016.

Martin Lee, Supply Chain, Logistics and IT Director for Screwfix, commented: “We are currently enjoying an exciting period of growth and it’s important to us that we maintain the highest levels of customer service as we expand. Our existing relationship with Wincanton has proven to be successful and, as a partner, they have demonstrated good knowledge of the market and a dedication to providing our customers with the best service possible.”

Liam McElroy, Managing Director, Retail & Consumer, Wincanton, said: “The relationship between Screwfix and Wincanton is built on a successful nine-year partnership and an understanding of the unique set of needs Screwfix customers have. The addition of a new warehouse at Lichfield will provide Screwfix with a base from which to sustainably grow their multichannel operations and meet future business needs.”

He added: “This new facility will also allow us to assist the company in providing their customers with a seamless multi-channel experience, building further on our own industry-leading eCommerce expertise. We look forward to enjoying many more successes with our colleagues at Screwfix.”

Wincanton already manages Screwfix distribution centres in Stafford and Trentham which service Trade Counter and e-commerce operations. With an expanding retail presence, currently one new store a week, this new purpose-built site has been designed to meet Screwfix’s growing logistics requirements.

Due to open in December 2017, the site has been selected in consultation with Screwfix to be able to flex with demand and demonstrate sustainability – it will feature solar panels, LED lighting and a system for rainwater harvesting.
