UPS and Global Brand to boost cross-border e-commerce opportunities for Japanese SMBs

UPS

UPS has announced a collaboration with trade and e-commerce consultancy company Global Brand Inc. to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Japan reach more overseas customers via the world’s main marketplaces.

According to UPS, the collaboration combines Global Brand Inc.’s comprehensive knowledge of the main e-commerce shopping platforms, including Amazon, eBay and Lazada, with UPS’s cross-border shipping and logistics expertise. This will provide SMBs in Japan a suite of essential solutions to help drive international business growth.

Global Brand has supported many Japanese businesses looking to expand to international marketplaces and offers a proprietary international shipping platform specialised in cross-border e-commerce. UPS is one of Global Brand’s shipping partners, providing logistics services including pickup, shipping, tracking, delivery etc.

According to the 2019 UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper study, 96% of consumers are already regularly active on online marketplaces. Sales through online marketplaces currently account for over half of cross-border e-commerce purchases and cross-border online sales are expected to make up more than 20% of global e-commerce by 2022. Small and medium-sized businesses are an integral part of the Japanese economy, but currently only 13% of them are active in cross-border e-commerce.

Daryl Tay, President of UPS Japan stated: “When we consider the speed at which e-commerce is developing, and that global cross-border e-commerce sales are expected to be worth $1 trillion this year, there is huge growth potential in this sector for Japanese companies. Through the partnership with Global Brand Inc., online sellers can tap into UPS’s global logistics network for international door-to-door delivery and services including more personalised delivery solutions such as UPS My Choice. Thanks to these solutions, customers can then spend more time growing their business.”
