Mars Wrigley Australia has announced a seven-year partnership with Toll Group and Charter Hall to construct and manage a warehouse in Truganina, West Melbourne. The new 44,000 sq m temperature-controlled warehouse, which is expected to become operational in late 2020, will feature technologies such as Automated Guide Vehicles (AGVs), assisting workers move pallets around the warehouse.

The warehouse will store all of Mars Wrigley’s products under one roof, with the hope to improve services and efficiencies for Mars’ Australian customers. It will have the capacity to contain up to 49,000 pallets at any given time – or about 733.8m Mars bars. Mars Wrigley’s current warehouse services more than 56 truckloads of Australia’s main confections, such as Mars, M&Ms, Snickers, Skittles and Extra, a day.

Marius Vermeulen, Supply Chain Director at Mars Wrigley Australia said: “It’s an exciting project for our business and it has been several years in the making. AGVs will assist our workers to increase warehouse flow, improve racking, and reduce handling – creating a safer working environment.”

Jason Bush, Toll Group’s Executive General Manager Retail, Consumer and Healthcare said: “We are proud of our long-term relationship with Mars and the new warehouse will provide a customised solution for their products.”

Charter Hall Head of Industrial Development, Andrew Simons, said: “We welcome Mars to our Midwest Logistics Hub in Truganina. The facility is our first pre-commit within the 60 hectares Estate.” According to Mapletree Logistics, that also opened a warehouse in the same area in September 2019, Truganina is one of the fastest growing industrial precincts in Australia.
