SEGRO has delivered a new 35,000 sq m multimodal platform, comprising a 10,000 sq m building intended for Geodis, increasing capacity operations of its rail service between the north and south of France.

Located in the heart of the former Pas-de-Calais mining basin, 30 km from Lille and 16 km from Lens, this new project is part of a site that Delta 3 has been developing since 2003, extending on 450 ha with, at its centre, a combined transport terminal and four logistics zones which will eventually offer 760,000 sq m of latest generation warehouses. The site also hosts a range of additional services: training centre, HGV secure parking, HGV maintenance workshop, and service stations.

Built in two phases on a plot of 7.4 ha and designed by Avantpropos Architects, the project developed by SEGRO provides for two buildings facing each other and organised on either side of the railway line.

The first building, custom-built, is occupied by Geodis over a total surface area of 10,000 sq m and includes 21 dock doors, a hall 385 m long and 27 m wide allowing simultaneous loading of the equivalent of half a train (16 wagons). In total, the site operated by Geodis represents a surface area of 35,000 sq m. The two trains operated daily offer a loading capacity equivalent to 100 full trucks on the road, for up to 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

SEGRO has also announced that the construction of the second building of an equivalent area is scheduled for 2021.
