PostNL to open new depots and sorting centres in Belgium

PostNL
PostNL has announced the opening of new depots and sorting centres in Belgium. In response to increased market demand, PostNL is significantly expanding its footprint in the country. In September 2021 two new parcel depots are said to come into operation, while next year will see PostNL open its first high-tech sorting and distribution centre in the country, and break ground on building a second, according to the company.

e-commerce in Belgium is continuing to grow apace and PostNL is upscaling capacity, aiming to continue to deliver all parcels swiftly and smoothly. Two new depots in Oevel and Desteldonk are scheduled to open in September 2021, adding some 300 runs a day (Mon-Sat) and creating scope to deliver tens of thousands of additional parcels a day.

PostNL currently has seven parcel depots in Belgium, operating from Sint-Niklaas, Ardooie, Namen, Vilvoorde, Wommelgem, Sint-Truiden and Mechelen. The two latest additions will account for around 18,000 sq m of additional depot space.

Early in 2022, PostNL will open its first Belgian high-tech sorting and distribution centre in Willebroek, and current growth is driving major efforts to prepare for the construction of a second such centre in East Flanders, said the company. This is planned to become operational by the second half of 2022.

These expansions in Belgium are part of planned investments in PostNL’s capacity growth.
