Hermes Germany continues to invest in the expansion of its infrastructure through the opening of a new distribution centre in Weyhe near Bremen. The investment volume for the new location is around €19m. The depot is an important part of the €300m infrastructure programme with which Hermes is extensively expanding its nationwide logistics network. The new distribution centre employs 65 employees and can process almost 40,000 shipments per day.

“The location in Weyhe is simply ideal for deliveries in Bremen and the surrounding area – from Diepholz and Verden to the border to Oldenburg: The short distance to Bremen city centre and the very good connection to the A1 and B6 allow optimal Delivery to our customers. In addition, with the ultra-modern logistics facility, we are ideally positioned for the future and continuously growing shipment volumes. We will benefit from this in the coming Christmas business,” said Marco Schlüter, Chief Operations Officer at Hermes Germany.

By 2025 Hermes plans to supply the inner-city areas of the 80 largest German cities with zero emissions. To meet this target, Hermes has been advancing the electrification of its vehicle fleet for several years. From 2021 some of the deliveries from the distribution centre in Weyhe will be completed using electrically powered vehicles.

A requirement for a functioning emission-free parcel delivery is existing charging infrastructure. In line with this requirement, Hermes has already installed 10 e-charging stations and there are plans to add a further 10 charging stations.
