GXO renews logistics contract with Manchester Airport

GXO Logistics has announced that it has renewed its logistics contract with Manchester Airport, extending a long partnership since 2006. Over the last 16 years, GXO has supported the airport to scale up operations in line with increasing passenger numbers. Today, the company delivers to over 70 retailer, food and beverage and consumer products stores.

On average, GXO receives, scans and delivers more than one million items per year.  On behalf of Manchester Airport, GXO operates a 29,000 square foot screening and consolidation centre. More than 80 inbound deliveries are received daily and consolidated into GXO’s last mile delivery fleet. This reduces vehicle movements around the airport by as much as 75%, helping to reduce congestion, pollution from CO2 and the risk of road accidents.

The customised IT system enables tracking and tracing of products in real time, enabling resource planning and efficiency savings. It also keeps stores and hospitality outlets fully stocked with merchandise and operational equipment to maximise revenue and customer convenience.

Stephen Turner, Manchester Airport Commercial Director said, “We’re pleased to extend our contract and grow our partnership with GXO which includes additional support for our latest strategic growth milestone – the opening of our Terminal 2 extension last July, which is part of our wider £1bn transformation programme. We have always been able to count on GXO’s industry experience and expertise to help us deliver a high-quality passenger experience and we look forward to building this relationship.”
