In April, GEFCO Indústria do Brasil started the assembly of utility trucks in Guaíba, Brazil as part of a new partnership with Foton Motor Group, a commercial vehicle manufacturer.

GEFCO Indústria do Brasil first discussed cooperation with Foton in 2013, when the car manufacturer unveiled plans to build a new truck factory in Guaíba. Foton’s project was postponed and GEFCO acquired a unit in the area, aiming to become the logistics and sub-assembly provider for Foton and other potential customers.

Alex Feijolo, Director of GEFCO Indústria do Brasil, commented, “Our long-term relationship with Foton reflects GEFCO’s mission to be “Partners, unlimited” for our customers. At the end of 2019, we pursued our discussions to identify how GEFCO could help Foton maintain its truck production in Brazil, even at low volumes. We’re delighted that Foton has chosen us to assemble trucks.”

GEFCO delivered its first vehicle for Foton at the end of April, in line with the manufacturers’ robust quality requirements. GEFCO’s goal is to increase our production capacity to meet the needs of Foton and its dealer network while proving the feasibility of its platform in Guaíba.

Alessandro Luz, Operations Coordinator, GEFCO Brazil, explained: “Assembling a vehicle with approximately 1,500 parts is a complex task that requires solid expertise. This partnership demonstrates our ability to manage complex assemblies, even at low volumes, and we hope will lead to further opportunities in the future.”

GEFCO Indústria do Brasil’s headquarters are based in San Paulo, providing used-vehicle remarketing and other value-added industrial services.
