FedEx announces new blueprint for its future

FedEx and Nuro have announced an agreement, testing Nuro’s autonomous delivery vehicle within FedEx operations, aiming to improve its last-mile logistics.

FedEx has announced a blueprint for its future with a renewed set of guiding and operating principles – Compete Collectively, Operate Collaboratively, Innovate Digitally – that are effective immediately and will inform its strategic outlook.

Compete Collectively

This principle will remain the same and includes elements such as,

  • fast and flexible delivery options,
  • seamless customer service,
  • continue strategies like the year-round Sunday residential delivery, FedEx Freight Direct and FedEx Delivery Manager.

Operate Collaboratively

According to the company, this new principle presents an important and strategic shift for FedEx and aims to build a collaborative approach to compete in the market. This will be continued through similar initiatives to,

  • Last Mile Optimisation — the delivery of specific FedEx Express residential and rural packages by FedEx Ground. It has already launched in 57 origin markets since February.
  • FedEx Freight, which has provided FedEx Ground with 20m miles of road and intermodal support and delivered more than 750,000 non-conveyable shipments so far in FY21. The company pointed out that freight had never delivered a Ground package before May of this calendar year.
  • FedEx Logistics and FedEx Express will continue to work together to secure air charters for customers in the US.

Innovate Digitally

This will see the continuation of Digital Transformation efforts that are already underway and includes:

  • Increasing visibility and control for customers through FedEx Delivery Manager.
  • Continuing investments in autonomous vehicles, like Roxo, the FedEx SameDay Bot.
  • Advancing its tracking technology through solutions, such as FedEx Surround and SenseAware ID.
