FedEx has announced an additional investment in the FedEx Express World Hub in Memphis, USA. Due to growing customer demand, a further $450m investment will accelerate the modernisation and expansion project which was announced in March 2018. The investment now totals more than $1.5bn and will be used over the next six years to facilitate the building of a new sort facility, the installation of new systems and the construction of a new bulk truckload building to support changing e-commerce needs.
The FedEx World Hub, which currently has 11,000 employees and 163 aircraft gates, is the largest sort facility in the FedEx Express global network. The Hub is expected to be completed by 2025 and create around 20,000 jobs along the way.
