DPDgroup break parcel record during Black Friday

GeoPost acquires Aramex

DPDgroup announced it has broken its daily parcel record over the Black Friday period, with 12.2m parcels handled on Monday 29 November Europe-wide. The company stated this represented approximately +60% compared to usual daily volumes.

Increased parcel volumes represented +27% growth on average compared to 2019, and +2% compared to 2020. According to DPD, this moderate growth is in itself a good performance as most European countries were in lockdown during November 2020, resulting in a boom of on-line purchases.

Depending on market, business units experienced different volume growth: in the Czech Republic, for example, +57%, while in France, the volume growth of Chronopost reached +12%. Outside Europe, Brazil handled +50% growth in parcels.

DPDgroup reported that after six months of unprecedent volumes, volume growth had slowed down at the beginning of Q2 as COVID-19 restrictions were eased.

The company stated that regardless of the market, parcels were handled in a very fluid way which resulted in good service performance during Black Friday.

According to DPD, it remains prepared for further peaks during the Christmas season, and expects to deliver 350m parcels across Europe over the complete period.
