DHL awarded European 4PL contract by Syngenta

DHL Freight has announced it has been awarded the management of Syngenta’s road distribution across Europe – covering both inter-company and last mile deliveries – and has successfully completed the first phase roll out. Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, Syngenta is an agriculture company.

According to the announcement, Syngenta chose DHL Freight as a fourth party logistics provider (4PL) for Europe and is expected to utilise DHL’s integrated end–to-end 4PL solution to streamline trade flows, complete shipments and maintain cost visibility.

As Syngenta’s fourth party logistics provider, DHL Freight is expected to take responsibility for sourcing transport activities – from defining transport demands, tendering and contracting, to on-boarding new logistics partners, monitoring the currently running operations and trade flows and driving continuous improvement measures.

Thomas Weins, Managing Director Agheera GmbH / Head of LLP DHL Freight, said, “Syngenta had a very clear vision on what they wanted to achieve: outsourcing logistics and establishing it as a differentiating factor in a highly competitive market.” Weins added, “We have developed a comprehensive end-to-end solution that addresses all customers’ needs, such as logistics sourcing, monitoring, analytics and transport planning.”

The implementation of this 4PL solution is expected to entail multiple phases and is planned to be completely rolled out by 2018.
