DB Schenker chosen by MediaMarkt to support its automated logistics in Sweden

MediaMarkt Sweden has chosen DB Schenker, to handle the logistics for online sales and store deliveries from the Arlandastad logistics centre near Stockholm. MediaMarkt is the second customer that DB Schenker is supporting logistically in Arlandastad, since the logistics provider already supports the Swedish online pharmacy Apohem.

Together with MediaMarkt Sweden, DB Schenker will further develop the warehouse management system (WMS) CarryPick used by MediaMarkt Sweden with the aim to increase the degree of automation and shorten processing times for customer’s orders.

SwissLog’s CarryPick, makes entire sections of warehouse shelves mobile and autonomous. Since the goods come directly to the warehouse staff for picking, CarryPick enables simultaneous automated picking processes for different customers. The solution can be used jointly by several customers at one location. All products sold by MediaMarkt Sweden – from small electronic items to televisions and white goods – are stored, picked and packed, and delivered to their destination from an area of around 15,000 sq m.

Reports suggest that the CarryPick solution is up to three times more efficient than conventional WMSs. In addition, MediaMarkt claims that the solution enables it to expand its entire omni-channel distribution and to react quickly to product or seasonal fluctuations.

Thilo Koch, Vice President Electronics Vector Market, Global Contract Logistics at Schenker AG, said: “We are delighted that MediaMarkt Sweden, has selected DB Schenker as its logistics partner. With our knowledge and the modern facility in the Arlandastad logistics centre, we will be able to contribute to the further growth success of MediaMarkt Sweden.”

Michael Rylander, Head of Supply Chain & Logistics, MediaMarkt Sweden, added: “We are convinced that Schenker is the right partner to sustain our future success to provide customers with an even better shopping experience.”
