DACHSER opens new office in Lisbon

Dachser Sweden

The new logistics center of DACHSER in Lisbon is now up and running. The branch represents an investment of €13m and will allow the international logistics company to expand its response capacity to customers’ needs in the region of Lisbon and its surroundings, as well as in the national and European markets. The 150 employees who worked at the former premises of DACHSER in nearby Alverca do Ribatejo have already moved to the new site, which started to be constructed in 2021 following the same standards of the company’s most modern centres in Europe.

The new platform is located in a strategic area, allowing for a more direct connection to DACHSER’s extensive European overland transport network. The move is also in conjunction with DACHSER’s new zero-emissions fleet.

Built on a total area of 59,200 sq m, the new site allows for faster and more efficient transport services for industrial and consumer goods. With a dedicated area of 7,396 sq m for transport services and 65 loading bays – which may be expanded in the future by 3,796 sq m and an additional 40 loading bays – the logistics centre is designed using an efficient model, and is automated. For handling and moving goods in the warehouse, the new infrastructure is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies for cross-docking operations, through a sorter system that allows the separation of orders, as well as an automatic pallets’ transportation chain system, among others.

The facility was also built with vehicle management optimisation in mind: the access for trucks, for loading and unloading, is fully automated and works based on license plate recognition. There is a parking area for more than 110 vehicles, as well as a waiting area with capacity for 15 trucks, which allow for an orderly stand-by once the vehicles enter the facilities to carry out their daily operations. Additionally, the branch has a two-story office building with a total of 1,411 square meters.

The attention to sustainability was also touched upon. The logistics platform is covered with solar panels, has an aerothermal installation for hot water supply, low consumption lighting and air conditioning systems, and intelligent control to achieve greater energy efficiency.

The new logistics centre in Lisbon is the second one built from scratch by DACHSER in Portugal – the first was Condeixa-a-Nova in Coimbra. With six branches in Portugal today, five of which are dedicated to land transport (Porto (two branches), Coimbra, Lisbon and Faro), and one dedicated to air and sea transport (Porto), DACHSER aims to expand its operations in the country. According to the investment plan that the multinational has for Portugal, it is planned, in the medium term, to open a new centre in Faro, with modernized infrastructure and larger than the existing facilities, in order to increase the capacity to serve the logistics operator’s customers in this region.
