Dachser invests €20m into Karlsruhe logistics centre

Dachser has announced an investment of €20m into the expansion of its existing logistics centre, in Malsch, near Karlsruhe, Germany. The decision to expand the logistics centre was made in response to growing demand from companies in the chemical industry. Since opening in 2012 the centre has developed into a key location for Dachser because of its connections to France, the main destination for German chemical exports.

Construction has started on a high bay storage facility covering 21,800 sq m and with approximately 43,000 pallet spaces. This will be a specially equipped facility designed to permit the safe storage of chemical products and hazardous materials such as paints, coatings, and adhesives. The new hazardous materials facility will feature high-standard safety equipment including; firewalls, an intricate sprinkler system, a gas warnings system and groundwater protection. Operations from the extension are anticipated to start in the first quarter of 2019.

Bernd Großmann, General Manager of the Malsch branch, explained, “Baden-Württemberg is one of the top five German states for chemical industry revenue. As such, there is strong demand here for logistics companies that can serve as a safe, reliable transportation partner while also offering safe storage of chemical products and hazardous materials.”
