Bolloré Logistics implements reusable air covers for shipment

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released data for global air freight markets in April showing that demand dropped 27.7% Y-o-Y.

Bolloré Logistics Chicago in coordination with the team in Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle has successfully implemented a new sustainable packaging for its air shipments from Paris to Chicago allowing to avoid 12kg per pallet.

In February, two pallets were transported, and other weekly rotations will be scheduled very soon in partnership with two major airline companies.

Bolloré Logistics Chicago and Paris CDG opted to make a practical choice to minimize their environmental impact by investing in reusable pallet covers. Single-use packaging materials like plastic wraps are significant contributors to waste in landfills as they are often discarded after only one use. Choosing reusable pallet covers over single-use option is a cost-effective solution and contributes to a sustainable future.” said Emilie Foray, Regional Director, Bolloré Logistics Midwest.

REcycle: Outsourced end to end management of transport & logistics consumables

Recycling is one pillar of Bolloré Logistics’ 4R policy which is declined in 4 objectives: Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle. Different actions are being developed under this new approach to help our customers reducing their carbon impact.

In 2022, Bolloré Logistics launched REcycle, an offer which objective is to promote the reuse of consumables for transport and logistics. The entire stock and its reverse logistics (if needed) are managed in an eco-responsible manner thanks to a dedicated web & mobile application.

This initiative complements the range of sustainable packaging already implemented in the Americas’ region for many years now: reusable pallet wraps, straps, collapsible box for store deliveries, container isothermal kit for shipments to Montreal in winter…Since 2021, more than 2 tons of plastic have been avoided thanks to these solutions.

Today we are reaching a new level with this first air shipment to the USA equipped with a reusable cover. We are looking to extend this initiative to other customers in the region. We have been working on different options lately to limit the use of plastic film and other consumables and we will keep encouraging and promoting their use as part a global offer combining our expertise in transport and logistics and commitment for a greener supply chain.” said Camille Vanderghote, CSR Manager, Bolloré Logistics Americas.
