Amazon has announced the opening of a new distribution centre in Ardea, a municipality in the metropolitan city of Rome.

It is hoped that the new facility, expected to be operational from next Spring, will play a key role within the company’s distribution centre network and will also create over 200 permanent jobs over three years. Additionally, as part of the commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, the Ardea facility was designed to be powered by solar panels and energy-saving systems. Employees will also have charging stations for electric vehicles at their disposal.

The Ardea site will be the third distribution centre and the seventh facility opened by Amazon in Lazio. According to the company, the Italian region is among the top five regions for small and medium businesses selling on Amazon that recorded the most sales abroad, for a total of over €50m in 2020. The region also ranks third in the ranking of regions with the most businesses who use Amazon to sell their products.

Since its arrival in Italy in 2010, Amazon has invested over €8.7bn creating more than 13,000 new permanent jobs in over 50 sites across Italy. In 2021, Amazon announced the opening of its first distribution centre in Abruzzo. Over the years, Amazon has also opened various centres and warehouses across the Peninsula and various urban distribution centres in Milan, Rome, Turin and Bologna.
