Amazon Dash, a product which enables consumers to order certain products literally at the push of a button, has been made available to Amazon’s UK Prime customers.
Goods such as toilet paper, dishwasher tablets, dog food and coffee are among the 48 brands that can be ordered and delivered within 24 hours from the thumb-sized, wi-fi connected devices. Buttons for each brand cost £4.49 but are offset against the consumer’s first order.
The Dash button follows the recent launch of Amazon’s Dash Barcode Scanner in the UK, a device for purchasing groceries from Amazon Fresh by saying the name of the product into a microphone or scanning a barcode.
The obvious implication of Dash for logistics is that it has the potential to generate a good deal more parcel deliveries. If so, it would mark yet another way in which online retail has so remarkably impacted the express and parcels sector.
The director of Amazon Dash, Daniel Rausch, said, “There is no retail therapy in buying toilet roll or bin bags. It’s just work. We wanted to take the one-click experience from our website and put it right where people need it most, in the home, near the products that run out. So that buying them is no longer work.”
Dash is also now being offered to Amazon Prime subscribers in Austria and Germany. It was launched in the US in March 2015 with around 20 brands, but the service has since grown to cover more than 150.
