Ahlers appoints Stefan Van Doorslaer as CEO

After a decade of growth, the global contract logistics market contracted by 3.3% in 2020, as a strong H2 prevented worse outcomes.

Ahlers has announced that Stefan Van Doorslaer will take over from Christian Leysen as its CEO. Christian Leysen will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors and will primarily focus on the family holding activities of the AXE Group, which also includes Ahlers. Van Doorslaer (46) will take on the day-to-day management of Ahlers as of January 1, 2019.

Leysen has been active within the company since 1989, and has been Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors since 1994 when Ahlers became fully family-owned again.

Stefan Van Doorslaer is an industrial engineer and holds an Executive MBA from Vlerick Business School. Previously, he worked at Katoennatie, Komatsu and Christian Salvesen. He joined Ahlers in 2006 and held various management positions in Belgium and abroad. During the past 10 years, he successfully worked on the expansion of Ahlers in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic States. In addition to his role as Managing Director of Ahlers for the CIS and the Baltic States, Stefan Van Doorslaer has also been Global Director Projects & Machinery since 2017.

Christian Leysen will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors and will primarily focus on the holding activities of the AXE Group (Ahlers, Xylos, AXE Investments).
