Wincanton expands its property portfolio and construction fleet

Wincanton has acquired two new warehouse units at Medway in Kent and Harlow in Essex. The new leases total 500,000 sq ft and are backed by a new customer contract.

Ian Henderson, Property Director at Wincanton, said: “We proactively review our property portfolio, ensuring that it is utilised effectively and that Wincanton is in the best position to secure new business. This includes not only disposal and acquisition, but also the restructuring of leases, and other asset management mechanisms to enhance value”.

Henderson added: “Further expansion of Wincanton’s warehouse footprint is planned over the coming year. We are in the process of acquiring new, well-located distribution space to accommodate the needs of our customers.”

Wincanton has also announced that it is expanding its construction fleet. The investment consists of 26 specialist Feldbinder tankers with Mercedes units, 22 of which have a 36 cu m capacity for bulk cement, or bulk sand. The remaining four have a capacity for 49 cu m of bulk ash.

Chris Fenton, Managing Director of Industrial and Transport, Wincanton, commented: “The construction sector makes up an important part of our business, in which we have established expertise and a track record of success. Our team is responsible for delivering varying materials to construction and building sites across the UK every day and as a result we have made, and will continue to make, investments across the business to support our growth and the increasing opportunities within the sector.”
