Wincanton has announced it has opened its first W2 Innovation Centre in Rockingham, Northamptonshire. The company reported that the centre is part of its ongoing commitment to collaboration in supply chain innovation.

The facility will be used to develop and showcase supply chain design and technology. Wincanton hope that the innovation centre will benefit British supply chains.

The centre is located adjacent to The WEB, Wincanton’s automated e-fulfilment facility. It is hoped that the centre will act as a hub to host customers, partners, colleagues, and community groups.

The centre is also home to the W2 Innovation Programme. The programme aims to develop new ways of working that will shape the digital supply chain of the future. The programme has been involved in the development of wearable technology and artificial intelligence from Soter, as well as an autonomous mobile robot solution by Sorion and ProGlove for e-fulfilment.

The centre will also host an educational exhibition space. Wincanton reported that visitors will be able to enjoy a fully immersive and interactive experience of Wincanton’s vision of supply chain innovation. Demonstrations will include robotics and wearable technology, alongside live supply chain visibility dashboards powered by Wincanton’s cloud-based technologies. The ‘City of the Future’ interactive tool will showcase five customer-facing scenarios: grocery, home & DIY, eCommerce and home delivery, construction and infrastructure.
