Rhenus and Blue Water Shipping are intensifying their cooperation in several European countries in order to develop their traffic between Finland and Central Europe. Both partners are planning to introduce new services with defined journey times and several weekly departures by working together.

Blue Water Shipping has 65 branches around the globe and employs more than 1,500 people. In 2015, the company generated turnover of approximately €40m. The 50 employees are responsible for providing transport and logistics services at three business sites – Vantaa (near Helsinki), Turku and Vaasa. The company has its own fleet of vehicles for European road transport operations.

Rhenus will cooperate with Blue Water Shipping in future through its national freight organisations in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and the Baltic States. Groupage freight services will primarily operate through the central Rhenus business sites in Hilden (Germany), Oldenzaal (Netherlands), Barcelona and Irun (Spain) during the initial phase. The main hubs for distributing the goods in Finland will be Blue Water Shipping’s distribution terminals in Helsinki and Turku on the country’s south-west coast.

“Blue Water Shipping is a highly motivated partner with an excellent knowledge of the market and extensive experience of distribution operations in Finland. We’d like to gradually increase the current customer base together so that we’re able to create the basis for additional regular services for groupage freight traffic to and from Finland,” says Tobias Volz, Head of Network Management in the Rhenus Freight Network.
