Rhenus Alpina acquires General Cargo business of Loomis Group

Rhenus Alpina AG and Sweden’s Loomis Group have jointly announced that Rhenus will be taking over the General Cargo businesses of Loomis with effect from July 1, 2016. The transaction comprises all legal entities and operating units of MAT TRANSPORT AG, BONAFIDE LOGISTIC AG, VIA MAT (FRANCE) S.A.R.L. and O.LISBOA DESPACHOS INTERNACIONAIS LTDA. Loomis Group will continue to focus on its core business of valuables logistics.

The 149 employees of the affected Loomis Group companies, 117 of whom are employed in Switzerland, will be integrated into Rhenus Alpina AG, where their existing employment conditions will be continued. No headcount reduction is planned.

The service offerings of Rhenus Alpina AG and the General Cargo area of the Loomis Group will complement each other. Andreas Stöckli, CEO of Rhenus Alpina AG stated, “This takeover will enable Rhenus Alpina AG to expand its spectrum of services further, as well as strengthen its market presence in attractive growth areas”. According to Rhenus, the existing service spectrum of the acquired General Cargo units will be fully covered in the future, and expanded in certain areas in the medium term.
