UK construction firm McLaughlin & Harvey has been appointed main contractor of the multi-million-pound Skyline Heathrow project by property developer SEGRO.
McLaughlin & Harvey, whose previous infrastructure experience includes projects at UK sites including Aberdeen, Prestwick, Sumburgh and George Best Belfast City airports, is expected to be on site from the end of January 2015. The contractor plans to deliver two industrial units totalling 154,000 sq ft adjacent to the international hub London Heathrow Airport.
The facility is expected to include two distribution and logistics warehouse units of 73,500 sq ft and 80,400 sq ft with first and second floor office accommodation. Each unit is planned to have HGV parking, five dock level loading doors and 2 – 4 level access doors. According to plans there will be 140 car parking and 50 cycle spaces across both units.
The buildings are also expected to feature solar thermal collectors and air source heat pumps.
Andy Ferguson, operations manager at McLaughlin & Harvey, said, “To be awarded this prestigious contract next to the world’s busiest airport is testament to the reputation we’ve built up for delivering high-quality largescale warehouse developments.” He added, “The facility offers a fantastic option for businesses wanting fast access to the cargo terminal at Heathrow, and we expect the hub will attract some high profile brands.”
McLaughlin & Harvey has also been confirmed as principal contractor for the London Luton Airport redevelopment and expansion of the airport terminal.
The warehouse units are due to be completed and open to business in summer 2016.
