Hermes Germany expects to move a record number of shipments over the four-week Easter period. A look at the shipment volumes reveals how much the Easter business has changed in the past two years. In Berlin, for example, Hermes processed almost 1.7m parcels in the four weeks around Easter in 2019. In 2020 there were already over 2m shipments, and in this year’s comparison period, there will be 2.3m parcels and packages according to Hermes’ current forecast. The increase in shipments is not only evident in megacities. Hermes has also recorded significant growth in medium-sized cities and rural areas: In Magdeburg, for example, 250,000 shipments were transported in the weeks around Easter in 2019; in 2020 it was already 300,000, and Hermes is expecting just under 340,000 parcels this year.

“Due to the pandemic, we are recording consistently high shipment volumes nationwide. Although this year’s Easter business brought us another increase in shipments, our logistics network has been working with very high volumes for some time. We are therefore very well prepared for the coming Easter days,” said Marco Schlüter, Chief Operations Officer of Hermes Germany.

The company forecasts an increase of more than 26% in deliveries across Germany compared to Easter 2020 and even an increase of 47% compared to the same period in 2019.

The delivery staff and the number of vehicles were not reduced as much as in previous years due to the persistently high volumes after the Christmas business and are therefore an important factor in being able to handle the Easter business.
