Hermes expands its logistics network

Following the opening of two new distribution centres in Hamburg and Leipzig this year, Hermes has inaugurated another logistics centre in Greven at the Münster/Osnabrück airport. A total of €42m was invested in the logistics centre, which is an important part of the €300m infrastructure program, aimed at expanding Hermes’s nationwide logistics network. 

The distribution centre covers a logistics area of ​​around 9,000 sq m. It will employ more than 140 staff. In addition to the logistics centres opened this year, there are already four new facilities in Mainz, as well as in the vicinity of Heilbronn, Augsburg and Berlin.

The Greven facility will open for operation in October 2019. More than 100,000 consignments are expected to be processed daily at the location which has been developed by ECE Projektmanagement

The company stated that is already setting the course for intensive future growth of the 2C market: The conveyor technology is designed so that it can easily be upgraded. This can double the plant’s capacity to up to 200,000 shipments per day.
