GEFCO has received a Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certificate from Bureau Veritas for the road transportation of medicine in Portugal. GEFCO is now certified GDP compliant in 19 countries.

The pharmaceutical logistics market is evolving and becoming increasingly complex, especially in this unprecedented pandemic period. As the volume of temperature-sensitive products grows and shipping regulations become stricter, compliance with safety and quality control is crucial.

In January 2021, GEFCO obtained GDP certification in Portugal, allowing the company to transport pharmaceutical products in the country. This certification is valid for three years and attests that the company has met all the requirements of the European Union Guidelines on Good Distribution Practice of Medicinal Products for Human Use. For this certification, Bureau Veritas verified the compliance of GEFCO’s shipments with the safety and quality requirements for pharmaceutical distribution, and also analyzed the quality systems and processes implemented in its logistics platforms.

Jorge Possollo, General Manager of GEFCO Portugal, said, “GEFCO is a reliable partner for shipping critical products such as pharmaceutical goods that require special handling during transportation and storage. The GDP certificate allows GEFCO Portugal to guarantee full process safety throughout our customers’ supply chain, from manufacturer to patient, including support with documentation at every stage. Continuous improvements in service quality remain a top priority.”

During the last two years, GEFCO’s quality management system and compliance with customer requirements have already been assessed positively by Bureau Veritas, enabling the Group to receive GDP certification in 18 countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, France (GEFCO’s headquarters), Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

GEFCO utilises three temperature-controlled, Life Sciences & Healthcare distribution centres run by the GEFCO Air & Sea division in Schiphol (Netherlands), Heathrow (United Kingdom) and Frankfurt (Germany).
