Gebrüder Weiss grows in Slovakia

Gebrüder Weiss is maintaining its growth course in Slovakia as its Bratislava facility is expanded by around 20,000 sq m at a cost of €7m.

“The positive development is largely the result of high demand in the e-commerce sector. In addition, we were able to attract important customers who were impressed with our tight network and direct connection possibilities to all European markets,” said, René Stranz, Country Manager Gebrüder Weiss Slovakia. In the area of land transport and home delivery, for example, the company recorded an increase in shipments of around 40%.

Gebrüder Weiss has responded to the growing volume of shipments by expanding its logistics space at the Bratislava location. There is now almost 20,000 sq m more space on site. In addition to new offices and spacious outdoor areas, the warehouse capacity has been increased by 5,000 sq m (total: 15,000 sq m) and the handling area by another 2,200 sq m (total: 6,000 sq m). The number of employees also increased by 20%. “This means we are well equipped to smoothly handle shipment peaks, such as on Black Friday, and to meet our customers’ expectations in terms of precision and service quality,” said, Stranz.

The logistics company invested around €7m in the expansion, taking ecological aspects into account as well; for example, installing an intelligent heating and cooling system and paying attention to LED lighting and low-energy consumption equipment throughout. Looking ahead, the company already has its sights set on possible further growth: an additional area of 10,000 sq m is available for future extension.

Gebrüder Weiss has been represented in Slovakia since 1993 and today operates four locations there with around 180 employees. Many of its customers come from the high-tech, automotive and e-commerce sectors. In the Coronavirus year of 2020, they were also able to win a major international customer from the cleaning technology sector.
