Gebruder Weiss expands freight forwarding presence in Turkey

Gebrüder Weiss and Global Freight System (GFS) have set up the joint venture “Gebrüder Weiss Express China”, specialising in parcel transports between China and Europe.

Gebruder Weiss has opened a new Air & Sea office in Izmir, Turkey, which will focus on serving customers based in the South Aegean region. The new office adds to the company’s existing freight forwarding branch in Istanbul, which opened at the start of 2014.

“Being physically close to the customers is key to expanding business. The companies in this region attach great importance to local presence and commitment,” said the Regional Manager, Air & Sea Asia at Gebruder Weiss.

Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey and is home to the country’s second largest container transhipment centre after Istanbul. According to the company, more than 4,500 export companies are based there and the region accounts for 4.2% of all of Turkey’s imports.

“In particular, the free-trade area in the south of Izmir offers international companies a well-developed infrastructure with ideal links to the nationwide road network and the nearby air and sea ports,” according to the Managing Director of Gebruder Weiss Turkey.
