DSV announce a new multimodal service between the UK and Italy

K+N Maersk

DSV is now operating a daily rail service via two sea crossings, one from Hull and one from Tilbury, to expedite transit times between the UK and Italy. Depending on the collection or delivery postcode either Hull or Tilbury ports will be utilised to offer a transit time of 5 to 8 working days.

All vessels sail to Zeebrugge, Belgium where the trailers are placed on the train for onward delivery to Novara in Italy. On arrival in Novara DSV arranges collection of the trailers and delivery to the final destination point. The same routing is used for imports into the UK from Italy.

Utilising the rail solution offers flexibility in both pricing and transit time, as well as environmental benefits. The rail solution also enables DSV to accommodate ADR consignments.

Denise Clarke, Senior Director, commented. “Following on from the launch of the rail freight solution between the UK and Spain, we have been very happy with the service and have received many positive responses from our customers. Following on from this success, we believe that adopting the same approach utilising rail between the UK and Italy will be the perfect solution to further improve our environmental footprint. Similar to the UK/Spain service, we will operate to and from certain postcodes in each country and as the operation is developed further, we will expand the coverage further.”
