Deutsche Post DHL Group opens new mega parcel centre in Bochum

Best Inc $750m IPO

Deutsche Post DHL Group has continued to strengthen its parcel network in Germany and opened a mega parcel centre in Bochum. With a sorting capacity of up to 50,000 shipments per hour, the Bochum parcel centre is one of the largest DHL parcel centres in Germany. When it reaches its full capacity in 2020, the new location will create around 600 jobs. With currently more than 20,000 sorted items per hour, the Bochum parcel centre is providing support for the fast processing of shipments in the Ruhr region in the run-up to the 2019 Christmas period.

Tobias Meyer, Board Member for Post & Paket Deutschland, points out that DHL business customers in the region will also benefit from the immediate proximity to the new parcel centre as their shipments can be picked up at later times and still be delivered the following day throughout Germany.

In March 2019, Deutsche Post DHL launched a major quality offensive, as part of which, between 2019 and 2021, an additional €150m is planned to be invested in additional personnel, improved shipment management and notifications, and 3,000 new DHL Packstations.
