DB Schenker sets up a new 21,000 sq m warehouse in Germany

DB Schenker has expanded its contract logistics offering with a refurbished logistics property in Güstrow, Germany. The new location offers a total of 21,000 sq m of total storage space for contract logistics in the food and consumer goods sector.

Gunnar Scholtz, head of DB Schenker’s Güstrow branch said: “Thanks to growing sales with our existing customers and good success in new business, we decided to set up an additional, central location. In Güstrow we found a property that fully meets the high demands of our customers in the food and beverage industry in particular. The move enabled us to increase our total storage space by 50%. Our customers also benefit from the convenient location on the A19 / A20 and the proximity to Rostock-Laage Airport.”

The 21,000 sq m total storage area offers 23,000 shelf spaces and 3,000 sq m block storage space. There is also an outdoor warehouse with 4,500 sq m and 1,000 sq m of office space. The warehouse is suitable for dry and frost-free storage. The new location meets all the requirements for the storage of food as required by the IFS Logistics standard.

The logistics center in Güstrow is aimed primarily at local companies, particularly from the packaging and food industry. A range of warehousing services are carried out at the facility, including customs warehouse storage, picking and distribution. At Güstrow, the company will offer value-added services including labeling, handling, assembly, repackaging and packaging. DB Schenker will consolidate volumes from and to Scandinavia at the Güstrow facility, store and handle goods imported from overseas, as well as the handle and process air cargo volumes from Rostock-Laage Airport.
