CJ Freshway, a subsidiary of the CJ Group, has announced that it has opened a new logistics centre to distribute food ingredients in Yeongnam, Gyeongsangnam-do.

The new 22,000 sq m ‘Dongbu Logistics Centre’ comprised of two stories above ground, is equipped with ambient storage, chilled storage and frozen storage warehouses on each floor.

Compared to the Yangsan Logistics Centre that is already in operation, the new centre is about 5 times bigger and can handle about 2.2 times more goods each day, accommodating approximately 400 tonnes. This will enable CJ Freshway to supply over 30 thousand ingredients a day to its B2B clients located in the Yeongnam area, such as foodservice franchise stores and food manufacturing plants.

The centre is equipped with a system optimised for logistics of food ingredients such as automated sorting and picking as well as inventory control. This is expected to reduce an average of 2 hours from sorting ingredients and loading them on vehicles for each client.

The centre has a dock that can accommodate 93 vehicles at once to improve the delivery service and reduce loading time, and also applied the ‘W-Navi’ system for the first time in the industry. The ‘W-Navi’ system is a smart logistics system that supports tasks such as warehousing, storing up, delivery order and inventory control based on location information by converting the entire layout of the logistics centre into data.

“Once the Dongbu Logistics Centre enters into full operation, we can deliver our products to the clients in the Yeongnam area in time, which will not only improve their satisfaction but also contribute to revitalising the regional economy by increasing purchases of famous local ingredients,” said Yoon Tae-Hyuk in charge of SCM at CJ Freshway.

CJ Freshway is operating logistics centres in six regions of Korea including Icheon, Suwon and Jangseong and is reviewing ways to build additional logistics centre that can serve as a base in order to supply food ingredients to local clients.
