CEVA Logistics and CMA CGM have joined forces in Thailand and Laos to launch a new cross-border service for ocean freight containers used by customers across both countries. According to CEVA, the service reduces delays for both import and export customers and helps them reduce carbon emissions.
The combined ocean freight and cross-border trucking service enables importers to drop off their empty containers at a newly expanded CMA CGM container depot, operated by CEVA, outside the Laos capital, Vientiane. Since equipment is no longer sent back to the Thai port of Laem Chabang where it entered the country, it is hoped that exporters from both Laos and North-eastern Thailand benefit from no delay in accessing containers in their regions, and the cargo can continue its onwards journey to the port.
The Vientiane depot will also support CMA CGM Group’s carriers and will provide storage, repacking and assembly services within the Free Trade Zone from which it operates.
