Ti Consulting: Ethiopian Logistics Market Study

The Brief

Ti was engaged by the World Bank to provide an assessment of the current logistics sector in Ethiopia in order that an improvement programme could be developed in conjunction with the Ethiopian government.

Recognising the importance of logistics for growing economies, the government was keen to understand the steps necessary to improve the sector in order to attract global manufacturers / FMCG companies to set up operations in the country. Ti provided an in-depth review of the regulatory and competitive environment in Ethiopia as well as the potential opportunities arising from analysis of key vertical industry sectors.

This included a review of the provision of logistics services to existing customers – including which companies are present and what services they provide – whether any barriers exist for private logistics providers, an assessment of the gaps that exist and the value that any new logistics service providers will bring to the market if the scope for participation is expanded. Inaddition, Ti investigated the current and proposed infrastructure serving the country to ascertain the prime locations for the development any future logistics parks. The study resulted in Ti providing the Client with a set of key actions required for the country to open its logistics sector and attract FDI.
