Avnet appoints Bob Bowen to lead global trade compliance


Avnet, Inc. a global technology distributor, has announced that Bob Bowen has joined the company as vice president of global trade compliance. In this role, Bowen is expected to oversee Avnet’s global trade compliance program, which ensures that customers and suppliers remain compliant with the evolving laws and regulations in countries around the world. Bowen is due to report to Mike Buseman, chief global logistics and operations officer.

Buseman said of the appointment, “As global trade continues to become more complex, customers and suppliers rely on Avnet to help ensure compliance wherever they do business,” He added, “Avnet’s proactive compliance procedures ensures the integrity of each transaction and provides early detection and resolution of compliance issues which helps avoid risks, delays and unnecessary costs. Having a team member with Bob’s caliber of expertise to drive our global trade compliance strategy and culture is vital. Bob’s leadership will help Avnet continue to build its strengths around global trade compliance to accelerate success for Avnet, our customers and suppliers.”

Bowen brings with him to Avnet 23 years of legal, regulatory and trade compliance experience from multi-billion dollar public companies to private practice, to roles with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Bowen most recently served as associate general counsel, government and regulatory affairs at Western Digital Corporation. In that role, he oversaw and directed the international trade law compliance program and worked within many jurisdictions where Avnet does business, including China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the European Union.
