An Amazon fulfilment centre will be the first tenant in the Contra Costa Logistics Centre under construction in northwest Oakley, California, bringing an estimated 800 jobs to the region.
The 150,000 sq ft Amazon centre will be located at 6000 Wilbur Avenue off Bridgehead Road. It will be the smallest of five buildings at the site, with the largest planned at more than 642,000 sq ft. No other tenants have been announced.
A formal grand opening celebration is planned for the site on Wednesday, October 7, when more details will be announced.
At completion, the business park is expected to bring in $388,400 annually to the city to Oakley as well as $420,000 a year to the East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. As part of the plan, NorthPoint will also complete several roadway improvements, including Bridgehead Road’s intersections with Wilbur Avenue and Neroly Road as well as alterations on Main Street at Empire Avenue and on Big Break Road at Main Street.
On Monday, September 14, Amazon also announced it will add 100,000 jobs in cities across North America and open 100 new buildings in September. Nearby in Tracy, Amazon has said it will be adding 1,100 jobs to its centre there, according to city officials.
