Amazon has announced that it has opened the Amazon Amagasaki Fulfilment Centre in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture. The facility is the largest Amazon fulfilment centre in western Japan with a total floor area of 100,000 sq m or more, and a scale equivalent to two or more Tokyo Domes. The establishment of this facility hopes to create employment opportunities for more than 2,000 people and contribute to the further development of the local community centred on Amagasaki City.

There are more than 30 types of occupations available in the facility, such as safety that manages safety and health, area manager and picking, packing, and shipping roles.

With this opening, Amazon’s overall product storage capacity has grown to more than 15m cu ft in more than 20 fulfilment centres across the country. With this increase in product storage capacity, Amazon hopes that distributors throughout Japan will be able to deliver products to more customers nationwide.

Amazon’s new facility introduced ‘Amazon Robotics’ and advanced technology so that workers can work more safely and efficiently. Amazon Robotics is a robot that lifts product shelves and moves them to workers, storing inventory and reducing the time it takes to pick products according to customer orders.

Amazon stated its facility can also store up to 40.0% more inventory and can therefore offer a wider selection of products. Amazon reported that it hopes this increase in inventory will enable the company to offer a wider range of business opportunities to small and medium-sized retailers who deliver products to customers in Japan using Fulfilment by Amazon.

The facility has also adopted thorough measures against new corona infectious diseases. Amazon stated it is also focusing on diversity, and are preparing the environment for various people, such as securing the width of the corridor so that wheelchair users can move freely.
