Amazon Australia has announced it will expand its Australian operations with the opening of its first Queensland fulfilment centre in Brisbane later in 2020. The new facility is located at Goodman’s Port Industry Park in Lytton, Brisbane and is set to begin operations before Christmas, enabling faster delivery to customers in Queensland.

The Queensland fulfilment centre will sit on a combined site of over 4 ha. Goodman, with which Amazon has a long-standing relationship, is refurbishing an existing 16,300 sq m building and has acquired an adjacent property from the Queensland state government, to facilitate Amazon’s requirements. Amazon said the new fulfilment centre will house more than half a million items from Amazon.com.au ranging from health, household and personal care products, to electronics, books, gardening equipment and pantry staples.

Amazon said local sellers will soon be able to send their products to the Brisbane fulfilment centre where Amazon will then pick, pack and ship orders to customers, provide customer service support and manage returns on behalf of the seller.

The company currently has three fulfilment centres in Australia, it opened its first in Dandenong South, Melbourne in December 2017, followed by Moorebank, Sydney in August 2018 and the most recent in Perth’s Airport Precinct in November 2019. It now offers customers 125m products across 30 different categories including Amazon devices. Products and services include Fulfilment By Amazon, Global Store, Prime, and Amazon Launchpad, a programme that helps Australian start-ups and entrepreneurs bring new products to local customers.

“Brisbane is a key strategic location to meet customer demand in Queensland, and we are committed to follow demand and our customers. This significant investment will benefit Queensland customers and small to medium size businesses, as well as create around 200 job opportunities to support the local economy,” said Craig Fuller, Director of Operations, Amazon Australia.
