Yusen Logistics has announced plans to expand its logistics service offerings in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, with the launch of two pharmaceutical warehouse projects in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The existing Yusen Logistics Antwerp Distribution Centre (ADC), located in Melsele, Belgium, is currently the central European hub within the European Yusen Logistics Pharmaceutical Super Highway system, moving over 2m pallets of pharmaceuticals per annum. This facility currently features an 18,000 sq m bonded good distribution practice (GDP) licensed pharmaceutical warehouse, including 1,500 cold store pallet positions (2-8°C).

Preparations have now started to extend the ADC facility with an adjoining warehouse of approximately 8,000 sq m, divided between cold storage (2-8°C) and ambient storage (15-25°C). This new build, fully licensed pharmaceutical warehouse will open for business towards the end of 2017.

Furthermore, in response to increasing demand for its pharmaceutical & healthcare logistics solutions from customers in the Netherlands, Yusen Logistics will be starting work on construction in the near future of a new pharmaceutical facility in the Netherlands. The new 11,225 sq m pharmaceutical facility will be located in Borchwerf II industrial zone near Roosendaal. This new facility will consist of cold storage (2-8°C) and ambient (15-25°C) zones and will open for business in the first quarter of 2018.

Managing Director of Yusen Logistics Benelux, Piet Boogaard, commented: “Both projects underline the importance of our strategy to further grow our healthcare activities in Europe. We are grateful to our customers for their trust and confidence in our services, and I look forward to working together to make these new projects a great success”.
