Sappi Southern Africa signs with Kuehne + Nagel for supply chain management

Kuenhe + Nagel

Sappi Southern Africa, a subsidiary of Sappi Limited, the manufacturer of dissolving wood pulp (DWP), has chosen Kuehne + Nagel as its preferred partner for sea freight order management.

Kuehne Nagel’s approach to Sappi’s logistics operations is an integrated solution to coordinate and automate tasks that were previously executed manually, offering a reliable coordination between orders and shipment execution. The solution is based on the implementation of an electronic data interchange system (EDI) enabling information exchange between Sappi, Kuehne Nagel and the shipping lines. The solution spans from order integration and management through automated reporting including end-to-end visibility and business process automation. For the next three years, Kuehne Nagel will manage 80,000 TEU equivalents per year with manual data capturing being eliminated and 18,000 EDI handled per month.

Morgan Moodley, General Manager of Sappi Export Services, says: “Since [the] inception of Kuehne + Nagel’s solution, system to system information transfer has increased, allowing for significantly reduced manual capturing in our complex supply chain operations resulting in improving efficiencies.”

Marcus Balzereit, Managing Director Kuehne + Nagel Southern Africa, says: “Kuehne + Nagel is proud to partner with Sappi Southern Africa and we are looking forward to the next stages of implementation to enhance and extend our relationship further. The solution provided by Kuehne + Nagel is a clear evidence of our ability to optimise supply
chains and to make use of customised, cutting-edge digital solutions.”
