Package explodes at FedEx facility in Texas

Fedex Chief Customer

According to reports by the Washington Post, a package believed to be destined for Austin exploded at a FedEx facility in Texas, early on Tuesday.

The San Antonio Texas Fire Department said one person suffered a “percussion-type” injury from the blast at the facility in Schertz, just northeast of San Antonio, sometime around 1 a.m. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are investigating whether the explosion is related to four other explosions this month in Austin, killing two people and injuring others. Authorities believe they are the work of a “serial bomber”.

Parcel bombs have been detected before in plots attempting to use delivery services such as FedEx. In 2010, two packages containing explosives and a detonating mechanism were found during transit on two cargo flights bound for the United States. One was discovered in Dubai, and the other at East Midlands Airport in the UK.
