TALKE enters US market with 10-year contract from ExxonMobil


TALKE has been awarded a 10-year packaging and export logistics contract for polyethylene capacity that ExxonMobil is adding at its plastics plant near Houston.

The deal will see new capacity of 1.3m tonnes handled annually. When ExxonMobil’s new facilities commence operations in 2017, TALKE will manage product packaging and transportation to the Port of Houston, from where goods will be shipped around the world. Specifically, TALKE’s remit includes loading sea containers with polyethylene, having been packaged by the logistics provider in 25 kg bags or in bulk. It will then transport most of the containers to the port, located about 25 miles away. Some polyethylene will also be delivered by rail containers. In summary, TALKE stated that it will “commission, operate and maintain the entire logistics system, including five state-of-the-art packaging lines.”

The operations will entail more than 200 employees managing material handling, transport and IT. TALKE will use its “Supply Chain Integration Suite” IT platform for the contract, with the company developing specialised modules for warehouse and transportation management in conjunction with SAP.
