Rail freight volumes up 17% on Eurotunnel

Eurotunnel Group’s 2017 H1 truck shuttle volumes fell 1% in year-on-year comparisons. Meanwhile, rail freight volumes increased 17% to 512,985 tonnes. On a quarterly basis, truck shuttles were flat when compared against Q2 of 2016. Rail freight tonnage was up 16% year-over-year.

According to Eurotunnel group, truck shuttle volumes were held back by severe weather conditions in Southern Europe in Q1. Meanwhile, rail freight volumes bounced back after a difficult 2016 which was affected by the wider migrant crisis.

Its group total revenues increased 3% year-over-year to €497m. EBITDA grew 8% to €242m, whilst overall net profit was up 20% to €30m.
