CMA CGM produced turnover of $21.12bn in 2017, up 32.1% from the year before. Its core EBIT of $1,575m was well up against its 2016 figure of $29m. The company also overturned its 2016 net loss of $452m. (2017: $701m)
In 2017, CMA CGM carried nearly 19 million containers, a strong increase of +21.1% compared to 2016. This increase was driven by the contributions of all the shipping lines operated by the Group in addition to APL’s full-year contribution. In addition, CMA noted that momentum had gathered from its OCEAN alliance offerings and from the Transpacific market.
APL services were integrated into the Group in June 2016. It carried more than 5 million TEUs in 2017 and contributed $340m to the group’s operating income in 2017.
The group’s average revenue per TEU increased by 9% compared to 2016 due to an increase in freight rates.
