Cargolux develops air freight network in CIS

Luxembourg’s Cargolux has announced that Ashgabat in Turkmenistan will be the latest addition to its network serving the CIS. A once-weekly service will supplement the airline’s existing flights to Turkmenbashi that commenced a year ago. Now, eight services per week are offered to Turkmenistan, with that number set to rise to 11 by the end of the month.

Ashgabat has invested in the development of a new airport that is scheduled to open in September and a cargo centre that becomes operational on July 4. The city will also host the Asian Games in 2017.

Elsewhere in CIS, Cargolux serves destinations such as Baku, Novosibirsk, Almaty and Tbilisi. The company partners with Turkmenistan Airlines to increase the number of cargo destinations both carriers can offer to their customers. With Ashgabat added, the Luxembourg airline can now also better serve surrounding markets such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Cargolux stated, “With its growing demand for air cargo services, the region has shown an impressive growth and holds many possibilities and opportunities for Cargolux’s high quality services offering.”
