UPS expands four North American distribution facilities

UPS has announced the addition of three buildings and the expansion of another in four North American locations, boosting its supply chain solutions network size by nearly 1.2m sq ft. The company states that rapid growth of customers in the high-tech, industrial manufacturing and retail industries fuelled the demand for new or expanded facilities in Mira Loma, California, US; Hebron, Kentucky, US; Louisville, Kentucky, US; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

This marks the second time in 2014 that both the Mira Loma and Hebron campuses have been increased in size. The expansion means that UPS’s global supply chain solutions network is now comprised of 596 facilities and nearly 32.8m sq ft.

“These investments are needed to not only support our existing customers and their growth but to also create capacity to support our new business expansion,” said Stephen Hydrick, UPS Vice President of North American distribution.

The expansion at Mira Loma added an additional 228,000 sq ft, bringing its total size to 1.6m sq ft. Similarly the Hebron campus has been increased in size by 274,000 sq ft, bringing its total size to 1.25m sq ft. The largest expansion was made to the Louisville facility, which has been enlarged by 606,000 sq ft to a total of 4.4m sq ft. Finally the expansion to the Canadian facility added 62,000 sq ft, giving UPS a total of 2m sq ft in the greater Toronto area.
