American Airlines Cargo, the cargo division of American Airlines Group, announced that it has further expanded its global temperature sensitive logistics capabilities to handle CSafe RKN air freight containers. The CSafe containers are compressor-driven refrigeration ULD which provides precise, temperature control of +4°C to +25°C.
“The addition of CSafe to our cold chain programme provides customers with another option for their shipping needs,” said Tom Grubb, Manager of Cold Chain Strategy for American Airlines Cargo. “This technology is desired by our customers for accurate temperature management of delicate shipments in order to protect and maintain the efficacy of potentially life-saving products for patients.”
To support these containers, American Airlines Cargo constructed dedicated active container management areas at airports across the US. These areas include plug-in stations which enable the containers to be recharged during transit to maintain precise and consistent temperature control for shipments throughout their entire transit cycle.
The freight airline is in the final stages of completing a new 25,000 sq ft dedicated pharmaceutical/ healthcare handling facility in Philadelphia, US. Within this facility, the active container management area has capacity to simultaneously charge 30 electronic units such as the CSafe RKN. Coupled with advanced monitoring technologies and emergency power backup for the facility, shipments are fully protected.
