Imperial Logistics acquires 70% of Kenyan pharmaceutical distributor Surgipharm


Imperial Logistics has expanded its presence in African pharmaceutical and consumer goods logistics by acquiring a 70% stake in Kenya’s Surgipharm for $35m.

Surgipharm, which has its main offices in Nairobi and Mombasa, is Kenya’s leading distribution company for pharmaceutical and medical products and was founded in 1985. 330 employees generate annual turnover of $70m.

Surgipharm operates warehouse space measuring 4,700 sq m and has its own fleet of distribution vehicles. It supplies the Ministry of Health, semi-public organisations, NGOs, hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, doctors’ practices and pharmaceutical wholesalers.

Imperial’s other activity in the pharmaceutical sector in Africa includes a majority interest in the Nigerian pharmaceutical company Eco Health (53%) and the Dutch pharmaceutical wholesaler Imres (70%).
