Americold begins construction on new automated facility in Illinois

Americold has begun development on a new 15.5m cu ft automated facility at its campus in Rochelle, Illinois, USA.

The campus is currently home to two conventional warehouse facilities. This expansion will add 57,600 pallet positions to the site, boosting available capacity for Americold’s customers in the Chicago market.

Fred Boehler, President and CEO of Americold, said, “Working with some of our key partners, we identified the opportunity to update and expand our campus just an hour east of Chicagoland, and to offer both automated and conventional storage options.”

The additional facility will be a 140 ft high series of rooms, housing an automated storage and retrieval system attached to a conventional warehouse format. The combined campus will cover 33.5m cu ft and contain more than 115,000 pallet positions.
